Reiki and Energy Work
Energy work in my practice can include the opening and balancing of chakras, acupressure, energetically locating dysfunctional areas, and Reiki.
Energy work is part of every session I give, whatever the modality may be. This helps me to be in a meditative, intuitive state where I can create a very relaxing experience for you as well as provide a healing environment. For people who aren't interested in receiving energy work alone, they still receive some of the benefits of the work along with their chosen modality.
What is Reiki?
Reiki (pronounced "ray key") is a Japanese word that means Universal Life Energy. This energy, which seems to be related to the energies ki (Japan), chi (China), or prana (India), is seen as animating all living things. These energies are manipulated in Shiatsu, Tai Chi, acupuncture, Qigong, Feng shui, and yoga. In these disciplines it is seen as flowing through meridians (Orient) or chakras (India). In fact in China, the view is that chi surrounds and engulfs you, rather than only flowing through you.
The intention of all of these energy techniques is to harmonize your energy system, allowing it to heal itself on all levels: physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. The difference in Reiki from these other techniques is that it is not seen as a cold clinical energy. It is viewed in a more spiritual light and feels very beautiful. Reiki is not attached to any religion or belief system.
In 1922 Mikao Usui developed a method to connect to Reiki, primarily for personal well being, but also for the treatment of others.
Karen trained in Usui Reiki with Taggart King, a well-respected Reiki Master/Teacher in the U.K. and founder of Reiki Evolution. Having completed training as a Reiki Master and Teacher, Karen is qualified to teach all levels of the Usui Reiki system of natural healing.
Who Can Benefit from Reiki?
Reiki is for everyone, of all ages and health. Reiki is also very effective for animals.
What to Expect in a Reiki Treatment
You may feel heat, cold, tingling, waves of energy, deep relaxation, or nothing at all. You may notice colors and lights on your closed eyelids. There may be feelings of disorientation or lightheadedness. Many people drift in and out of a sleep state. Memories may rise to the surface and there can be emotional releases. Sometimes a physical symptom may intensify, but that is usually short-lived. Everyone experiences Reiki uniquely. Be assured, that whatever your sensations, Reiki is working for your highest good and cannot hurt you.
A Reiki treatment can be done anywhere and anytime. A full treatment is normally about one hour long, preferably given while you lie comfortably on a treatment table, fully clothed. I will gently lay or hover my hands on or above different areas of your body for several minutes at a time. Following a treatment you will probably feel deeply relaxed and possibly light-headed.
The effects of Reiki are cumulative. A series of 4-6 treatments given at weekly intervals will provide the best results for any acute problems. Monthly or biweekly Reiki sessions can be very helpful for general well-being and relaxation or for chronic problems.
